Mighton Products is the market leader for vertical sliding sash window hardware with a history of innovation that dates back to 1983. In a strategic move, the company is now taking their considerable expertise into the timber casement and PVC-U vertical slider hardware markets, through co-directors, Mike Derham, Gary Morton and Mark Fortune.
With a unique and leading position in the market, Mighton are already demonstrating that they have the resources, hunger and products to make a long-term impact in these new sectors. There are also bold plans for the future, to develop the business into additional new and complementary sectors, both in the UK, USA and other export markets.
Product ranges
Mighton now has two distinct product ranges, sash window hardware which also incorporates three window systems and their timber casement window hardware. The latest issue of the Mighton Direct catalogue and the new website at www.mightonproducts.com details the new range in considerable detail in terms of prices, pack quantities and other technical information.
The sash window hardware side of the business demonstrates an unsurpassed product range that’s evolved and expanded over the last 27 years, both for the UK and USA markets. These products include sash balances, weights, fasteners, pulleys, lifts, handles, weatherstripping, beads, cords, chains, trickle vents, window security products and even window assistance products to help some consumers open difficult and heavy sash windows.
However, one of the most innovative products within the Mighton range is the Angel Ventlock™, which was developed by chairman, Mike Derham to help prevent children falling from an open sash window. Mike’s done a great deal to champion the cause of child safety with regard to opening windows, both in the UK and particularly in the USA, where it’s a multi-million dollar issue. He currently sits on the committee of The Windows Safety Task Force in the USA to support this and is looking to raise this important issue of improved standards in the UK.
The Angel Ventlock™ can be fitted during the manufacturing process of PVC-U or timber sash windows, either on the front or side of the sash and has proven to be the perfect solution for opening restriction. It can also be easily installed for use in the retrofit market and carries the latest standards for the USA (ASTM F2090-2008 and 2010) and is also the only window limiter that conforms to the UK window cill height and fire egress regulations. Ecosash, Ecoslide and Ecosafe are the three timber sliding sash window systems from Mighton and each of them carry LABC approval. This has removed the requirement for joiners and installers to have their timber sliding sash windows certified to the latest Building Regulations, Document L, which came into force on the 1st October 2010.
The second product category is the newly launched timber casement hardware range and is part of Mighton’s plans to diversify into new and complimentary markets. These new products include trickle vents, security tape, friction stays and the UltraSeal range of foam weather seals. Sitting alongside these items are the Vanquish and Vantage range of espagnolette handles, espag rods and keeps and the Excalibur shootbolt range. Finally, the Avant Craftsman range of casement stays and fasteners, and the impressive Mighton Antique Range complete the timber casement window hardware range.

Not only does Mighton provide a comprehensive 110 page product catalogue, but their new website at www.mightonproducts.com provides an e-commerce solution and 12 educational videos through Sash Window TV, covering installation, security and technical issues. There’s also a sister website at www.partl2010.org aimed at joiners who are looking for a quick and easy way to ensure they are compliment to the latest standards in Document L of the Building Regulations.
The online support has been further enhanced with the introduction of The Calculator. This vertical sliding sash calculator has been designed to generate an accurate list and cost for all of the hardware and accessories needed, for a single window or complete order for PVC-U vertically sliding sash windows. The Calculator covers all of the leading systems and their variants and colours and is an impressive and proactive development by the company.
