RECO22 System from Profile 22

RECO22, the award winning recycled window system from Profile 22 has become the only PVC-U profile to secure a dedicated A+ rating for domestic use from the BRE.

About RECO22
Window systems leader Profile 22 became the first PVC-U window systems company to secure a dedicated top A+ rating from the Building Research Establishment for its recycled RECO22 system. Manufactured from profile made from 100 per cent recycled material, the system marks a stride forward in PVC-U building technology while the systems company argues it also delivers significant commercial advantage.

“We have a responsibility to make best use of resource” says Andrew Reid, sales development director Profile 22. He continues: “That extends to raw materials but equally a responsibility to our customers to deliver products that tip the sales balance in their favour.”

The system uses profile extruded solely from 100 per cent recycled PVC-U. A thin foil is then added to the product to ensure colour uniformity and to deliver an enhanced aesthetic. The highest recycled content of any PVC-U system, RECO22 boasts a unique listing in the Green Book Live for an A+ rated window system.

It’s manufacture from 100 per cent recycled material also means that the award winning system also cuts the carbon footprint of extruded profile to just six per cent* of that manufactured using virgin material. (*Based on calculations published by Vinyl 2010 for the carbon footprint of recycled profile compared to that manufactured from virgin polymer.)

Pitched by the Epwin Group systems house as offering house builders, social housing providers and specifiers access to a new generation of low carbon PVC-U windows combined with its unique rating, the system has been specifically developed for the commercial sector.

Reid continues: “It’s first and foremost a sales opportunity. We need to develop products that deliver environmental benefits but which also give our customers a platform to increase margin. RECO22 does both while certification by the Building Research Establishment increases sales collateral further.”

This is fully apparent in Profile 22’s decision to apply a foil to the system. “There’s significant and growing demand for foiled wood grain and colour finishes. We have recently restructured our colour offer and can now supply 18 different finishes in addition to white. We’re looking at product development holistically, rather than a single strand.

“And this is what ‘green’ needs to be – it has to deliver commercial advantage - it can’t afford to be a luxury. That’s something that we’re pushing throughout our business, not just through RECO22 but in the full range of products we offer.”

An integrated approach to sustainability - The RECO22 range of recycled products from Profile 22

Recycled Composite Material (RCM) reinforcement - RCM reinforcement is manufactured solely from recycled material. It replaces steel making frames lighter but also delivering equal screw retention. More thermally efficient than steel it is also easier to drill and with no metal swarf it also eliminates rust marking.

Recycled cill - Profile 22 offers a universal cill system. Developed to give fabricators and installers new flexibility in cill choice, it also features a high recycled content – up to 90 per cent, with a co-extruded high quality virgin skin. Available in 85mm, 125mm, 155mm and 185mm widths it comes with a complete range of suited ancillaries, developed to deliver greatest flexibility from a minimum number of components.

Cavity closer - The RECO22 new build range includes the cavity closer and former system, Winfast. Designed and developed to enable an internal fix, eliminating a raft of health and safety regulations, but also without the use of snappers, drills and screws, windows are locked in with rotating cams, making new build installations simpler and much quicker. The BBA accredited system features 98 per cent recycled content and is available in 75, 80, 90 and 100mm cavity widths.
